The Museum’s Collection
Throughout it’s fifteen rooms, the museum exhibits almost 2,000 objects, books and documents that bear witness to the Huguenot resistance for their faith, during several generations, when faced with the intolerance of the authorities.
One can find foldable ‘Desert’ pulpits ; forbidden Bibles and Psalters of all sizes, printed in foreign countries, hidden and brought into France to be used as spiritual food in families and in gatherings to strengthen their faith. The Camisard weapons give evidence to the struggle that took place in the Cevennes. Numerous decrees and sentences recall the terrible repression on behalf of the powers, and the suffering in the prisons and on the galley-ships. A beautiful collection of old Huguenot crosses, ‘mereaux’ and medals, manuscripts, paintings, and many different regional objects and products bring to life this history that had great impact in the Cevennes…
The Museum is always looking to expand its exhibits and collect more objects to display and preserve, because the museum serves as a place of conservation for the Huguenot patrimony, from the Reformation up until today. It is, therefore, open to all suggestions of purchases and gifts.
